For clients with 50+ people accessing analytics, this governance is essential — without it, you get the "my number doesn't match your number" problem that plagues every growing analytics team.

The BigQuery integration is naturally excellent since Google acquired Looker. If a client is on BigQuery (most of ours are), Looker connects seamlessly and takes advantage of BigQuery's performance. The embedding capabilities are also strong for clients who want to surface analytics within their own products.

Where It Falls Short

Cost is the elephant in the room. Looker's enterprise pricing starts around $5,000/month and scales from there. For growth-stage companies, this is a massive commitment before you've even started building dashboards. The pricing isn't transparent — you have to talk to sales, which signals enterprise-level budgets. LookML itself has a learning curve that requires developer time to set up and maintain.

Compared to modern BI tools, Looker's dashboard creation experience feels dated. Building a simple chart takes more clicks and configuration than Metabase or Looker Studio.
