If your Lynn company has 100 or fewer Massachusetts employees, the state can reimburse up to 100% of AI training, up to $3,000 per employee and $15,000 per year. You pay the course fee first and are reimbursed if approved.
GE Aerospace has built engines in Lynn for generations, and the machine shops that supply that kind of work live on paperwork as much as spindle time: quotes, routers, inspection reports, certs, corrective actions. These are small companies. The person doing the quoting is often also doing the purchasing and the scheduling.
Lynn is more than aerospace, though. Medical and dental practices, building trades contractors, a busy and varied restaurant scene, and the redevelopment along the waterfront all depend on small teams with too much admin.
The Workforce Training Fund Express Program reimburses up to 100% of an approved course for employers with 100 or fewer Massachusetts W-2 employees: up to $3,000 per employee per course and $15,000 per company per calendar year. The employer pays first and is reimbursed afterward, if approved.
The pattern is the same in each case. The knowledge is already in your people's heads and in your files. Training teaches them to get a usable first draft out of an AI tool, then review it the way they would check a new hire's work.
For the caps, deadlines and the three documents you will need, read the statewide guide to Massachusetts AI training grants.
Start with Claude Code for Operations and Data Teams if you run a machine shop, or any operation where the data sits in spreadsheets, ERP exports and inspection records. It suits the operations lead, quality manager or scheduler who wants production reports and job data pulled together without waiting on IT. It is also the smallest class: 2.5 hours a week for 4 weeks, capped at 6 trainees.
AI for Field Service and Trades Businesses is the fit for Lynn's electricians, plumbers, HVAC companies and general contractors, meaning the office and field staff who handle estimates, scheduling and the back-and-forth with customers. It runs 2 hours a week for 5 weeks, up to 8 trainees.
AI Enablement for Small Business Teams covers everyone else: a restaurant group's managers, a medical practice's admin team, a property manager's office. Same 5 week format.
All three are live, instructor-led, 10 instructional hours and $3,000 per trainee, which lines up with the Express cap of $3,000 per employee per course.
It used to. Before April 1, 2026, employers with 51 to 100 Massachusetts employees were reimbursed at 50%. Since that date they can be reimbursed up to 100%. The caps are $3,000 per employee per course, $15,000 per company per calendar year and $300 per instructional hour. Approval is decided by Commonwealth Corporation and is never guaranteed.
You file the Express application online with Commonwealth Corporation, not with the City of Lynn. The MassHire North Shore Workforce Board is the regional workforce board. It is a useful free resource for other hiring and training programs, but it does not run this grant. Help with the application itself is free, because training providers are not allowed to charge for it.
No. Legally mandated training, OSHA included, does not qualify. The AI courses are a separate matter: they are not mandated training. Only courses listed in the state's Express Course Directory qualify, and we offer these courses through our training partner, a registered Express Program training provider.
