Who it is for

Built for these roles

Operations managers, controllers, senior bookkeepers, business analysts, IT generalists and technically inclined department leads at Massachusetts companies with 5 to 100 employees.

Prerequisites: Comfort with spreadsheets and willingness to work in a terminal. Programming experience is not required.

Format

How it runs

Hours
10 instructional hours, 4 sessions of 2.5 hours, one per week
Delivery
Live over video; hybrid on request. 100% live and instructor-led, during paid work hours. Not self-paced.
Cohort
Up to 6 trainees, two-seat minimum
Price
$3,000 per trainee ($300 per instructional hour)
Tools
Claude Code and version control, working against two simulated practice systems (a sample order system and a sample accounting ledger) with identical data for every participant. Participants use free or employer-held accounts.
Learning outcomes

What your team can do by the last session.

Set up Claude Code on a company machine with secure credential storage and a backup routine
Turn a business process into a specification an agent can implement and a test can verify
Connect two practice business systems through APIs or file exports and move data between them
Build a scheduled automation and a recurring report with logging and a failure alert
Review, test and version the resulting code
Document the automation so a colleague can run and change it
Session by session

Each session is a lesson, then hands-on practice.

Every exercise uses the same standardized practice material, so nobody works on live company data during the course. Applying the method to your own business comes after.

Session 1Environment setup, credential storage, backups and version control. Then a paired lab: first agent tasks on the practice dataset and committing the work.
Session 2Writing specifications and tests, letting the agent implement, and proving it works. Then a paired lab: specification and tests for a reconciliation between the two practice systems.
Session 3APIs, file exports, scheduled jobs, logging and failure alerts. Then the capstone build: a scheduled reconciliation with logging and an alert.
Session 4Recurring reports, hardening, documentation and hand-off to a colleague. Then the capstone review: tests, a planted error, a credential check, a peer run and written feedback.
Capstone

How the work is checked

Each participant's capstone is reviewed against a written rubric, and everyone gets written feedback.

  • The specification matches the build
  • The automated tests pass
  • A planted data error is caught and alerted
  • Credentials are not stored in code
  • Another participant can operate the automation from the run instructions
Scope

What the course is not

  • Not self-paced. Every hour is live and instructor-led.
  • Does not include AI tool licenses, subscriptions or software access.
  • Not an assessment, implementation, advisory or coaching engagement, and not bundled with one.
  • Not work on your own systems or data. That happens after the course, and it is where JMK Ventures can help.
Paying for it in Massachusetts

Your state may pay part of it

Most states run their own employer training grant with their own rules on providers, rates and timing. Some cover this kind of course and some do not.

15 minute eligibility check

Tell us your state. We tell you what it pays.

Every state has its own checklist, so the form asks where you are first. Send it and we come back within one business day with what your state's program covers, whether your team qualifies, and the dates you have to hit.

  • You are a private employer with W-2 employees in your state
  • The people you would train are on your payroll, not owners, 1099 contractors or temps
  • You can pay the course invoice first and be reimbursed by the state
  • Training can happen on paid time, at regular wages
  • You can wait out your state's lead time before the first session
More than 100 employees, or in a state marked limited? Send the form anyway. Several states have a second route for larger employers, and we will tell you if one applies to you.

See if your team qualifies

Takes about a minute. We reply within one business day.

More than 100 employees puts some programs out of reach, but not all of them. Massachusetts, for one, has a General Program for larger employers with a 1-to-1 match. Send the form and we will route you.

No cost and no obligation. Help with the application is free, and you file it. Approval is decided by your state's program and is not guaranteed.
