Team Communication
Team messaging platform that doubles as JMK's operational notification layer — most of our automation workflows end with a Slack message.
Slack isn't just a chat app in JMK's world — it's the notification and alerting layer for our entire automation stack. Every n8n workflow we build, every deal stage change in HubSpot, every shipping exception from ShipStation — they all surface in Slack channels. We've been on it since day one, and at this point it's as much infrastructure as it is communication.
Any team of 5+ people that needs real-time communication with channel-based organization.
Companies building automation workflows that need a notification and alerting layer.
Organizations that need native integrations with tools like HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Workspace, and n8n.

The integration ecosystem is unmatched. Every tool in our stack has a native Slack integration or supports webhooks that post to Slack. This makes it the natural convergence point for operational awareness. Custom Slack bots via n8n webhooks let us build exactly the notification patterns clients need — revenue alerts, inventory warnings, customer escalations — all landing in the right channel for the right team.
Slack Connect for external collaboration is also something we use regularly. Working with clients in their Slack workspace (or inviting them to ours) keeps communication tight during engagements. The huddle feature has replaced most quick calls. The new AI features (channel summaries, thread recaps) are included in Pro and genuinely useful for catching up after being offline.
Slack's pricing has crept up. At $7.25/user/month on Pro, a 20-person team is $145/month for what is essentially messaging. The 3-user minimum on paid plans is also annoying for very small teams. And while we love Slack, the notification overload problem is real — without disciplined channel structure and notification settings, teams drown in messages. This is a culture problem more than a product problem, but Slack doesn't do much to solve it.
Search has improved but still isn't great for finding specific messages or files from months ago. And if you're on the free tier, the 90-day message history limit makes it unusable for anything beyond casual chatting.
Slack is our internal communication platform and the primary notification channel for client automation workflows. Standard setup for clients: #ops-alerts for automation notifications, #revenue for deal and order alerts, #support for customer escalation triggers. We build custom notification workflows in n8n that post formatted messages to Slack with action buttons. For client engagements, Slack Connect keeps communication fast and centralized.
Slack is JMK's operational notification layer across 20+ automation engagements. How we use it as infrastructure, not just chat — and when it's worth the cost.
